In "The Single
Guy," Jonathan Silverman stars as one of the last single people amang
close circle of friends. His life is a roller-coaster ride of blind dates,
"fix-ups" and romantic adventure. This television show became an immediate hit
in its debut season(1995-1996). It ranked No.6 among households, with a 16.7
rating and a 26 share; and No.5 among adults 18-48, the demographic group most
sought after by advertisers.Despite being smart, witty and attractive, fledgling
novelist Jonathan Eliot(Silverman) seems to be one of the only people he knows
who remains a bachelor, but he has plenty of matchmakers working on his
behalf.
Also, joining the cast this season is Olivia d'Abo from "The
Wonder Years," who plays Marie, an attractive English woman who moves into
Jonathan's apartment building after a messy divorce, and frequently works as a
voice-over artist at Sam's studio. Shawn Michael Howard, who plays a new member
of the ensemble, Russell, a first-year law student who works at a bagel
restaurant that Jonathan and his buddies frequently go to.
Returning as
Jonathan's be buddy is Sam(Joey Slotnick), an only slightly lunatic recording
studio engineer, and his dry-as-good-martini wife, Trudy(Ming-Na Wen), who runs
SoHo art gallery. Rounding out the cast again this season is Oscar winner Ernest
Borgnine as Jonathan and Marie's jovial doorman,
Manny.

After a critically acclaimed
guest appearance on the "Friends" Super Bowl episode, Brooke Shields, who has
been dazzling audiences since her star turn as a young child in "Pretty Baby," is
starring in her first television series.
The show focuses on
Susan(Shields), a beautiful but somewhat sheltered magazine writer, who leaves
her rich fiance whe she realizes she wants more from life. Unlike her parents,
who think she's crazy for giving up the life of wealth and luxury that would have
accompanied her marriage. Her Nana(Barbara Barrie, totally supports her decision
and helps ease the adjustment into her new lifestyle.
At the San Francisco
magazine The Gate, Susan struggles with her new promotion from copy
editor to writer of her own column on being single. Her boss Judd Nelson, the
brother of her ex-fiance--decided she earned the promotion after realizing that
now that she was alone, confused, struggling to make ends meet and facing a world
full of potential pain and failure, she was suddenly interesting to readers.
Also, working at the magazine place are Vicki(Kathy Griffin), Susan's witty
co-worker who introduces her to the single world; Luis(Nestor Carbonell, the
suave photographer who has his eye on her; and Todd(David Strickland, the
magazine's music critic whose fixation with MTV has won him an extremely limited
attention span.
